Jeep-Trails.Com came on line December 23, 2003. It came to be because of a webmaster on another site. She was of the belief that trails should be kept secret, and only those who know exactly where they are should know about them! I was, and still am under the belief that keeping digital records of these trails is only beneficial to our ability to wheel these trails. Since 2003 the USFS, BLM, and other federal, state, and local agencies has been charting, planning, and mapping our trails in an effort to have a precise OHV use plan.
This site was, and is designed as a depository of information, a digital archive of trails used exclusively for OHV recreation. Since it's creation it has continued to gather information from numerous sources in an attempt to have detailed information for any group, agency, or organization working on the "OHV use plans" for any trail or public area.
Since this sites creation government agencies have drawn up use plans for many areas, and those trails that some deemed "secret" have been included in the off trail category of most plans. Many of those favorite trails have become illegal to run.
Jeep-Trails.Com believes that we can overcome the governments plan to close many off the beaten path trails by recording and posting accounts of trips over these trails. SOME OF THESE TRAILS HAVE BEEN RECORDED HERE FOR 8 YEARS NOW! It would be hard for any agency to claim those trails as new, or unused, or incorrect bypasses of other trails after 8 years of documentation.
Jeep-Trails has been privileged to run a couple of trails that were re-opened after several years of closure because of fire damage. Using the GPS tracks from stored data recorded in 2002 we were able to place Cleghorn Trail in California exactly where the original trail was in 2005.
This site welcomes participation and looks forward to adding your trails to it's archives. Please feel free to send any trail information, maps, GPS data, stories, and photos to the site. It will be added to the on-line content as soon as possible. Those who participate daily in inter-agency plans, and work full time to keep our trails open are welcome to add content here. PM me for permission to access the Trail Reporters, Contributors, or Activists areas of the board. PM me if you need any GPS data, maps, or other data kept in areas of limited access.
Thank you to those who have contributed, to those that work diligently to protect our access, and to those who every day TREAD LIGHTLY across our trails!
