Dear Tammy Pike, Tonto National Forest
It is good news to hear that you are considering re-opening FR42 and the surrounding trails. This is a wonderful area and offers the ability to get out and enjoy the Tonto National Forest.
I had the fortune of being on the maiden voyage June 1st, 2005 thru Cleghorn Jeep Trail in the San Bernardino National Forest in California after 3 years of re-growth. The first trip along the epic trail since the 2002 fire was a great feeling for those of us that work hard daily to keep access to our trails. The trail has made a beautiful recovery, and is today the great day trip it was in its past. The 10.4 mile trip takes you from the I-15 and the city rush, to a beautiful overlook of Silverwood Lake high in the San Bernardino Mountains.
It would be nice to be able to run this trail again From Bartlett back up to Horseshoe Dam. It is a very scenic area containing lots of Arizona natural history and awesome views.
I really appreciate your hard work in taking this into consideration for this area.
Thanks,
Allen McMurtrie

I also plan on contacting the AZOHVC to attempt to line them up with a grant to fund maintenance of the area.
